Edo State Government set to put infrastructure in place for Cattle Ranch – Dr. Osagie

Edo State has a comparative advantage in Cattle Farming compared to other States in Nigeria in terms of its lush vegetation that supports cattle farming and ranching.

The Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Thomas Haruna made the disclosure while representing the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Peter Osagie, when he played host to Members of National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NACDPAMN) in his office at the Agriculture Hub in Benin City.

According to him, “The State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved for infrastructure at Igarra Ranch to be put in place, so as to restore its past glory”.

He stated that collaborating and partnering with the Association aligns with the Governor’s vision of renewed support for ranching to prevent farmers and herders clash, adding that this would serve as key to economic and Food Security in the State.

Earlier, the President, National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria, Alhaji Iliyasu Bulama, represented by the National Vice President, North East, Engineer, Garba Musa Gwani advocated for ranching, as it is a panacea to curbing clashes between herders and farmers.

He urged Edo State Government to embrace the modern method of cattle farming, stating that the old system of cattle rearing is gone, while enjoining the State Government to include dairy Centers in their plan for ranching, as this would be a very lucrative aspect to look into.

Alhaji Iliyasu, appealed to the State Government to look into the issues of Cattle Rustling.

Also present at the meeting were, the Deputy National Vice President South West, Ibrahim Yusuf Chairman Edo State, Lady Uwa Sylvia Iyamu, Women Leader, and other State Excos.
