Okpebholo to make Edo a portable paradise –Hon. Ohonbamu

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu has disclosed the plans of the Okpebholo led administration to make Edo State a portable paradise through the restoration of sanity into the Security, Education and Infrastructural Sectors.

This disclosure was made during a press briefing held at the Ministry’s premises in Benin City. Hon. Ohonbamu who assured that cultism would be brought to the barest minimum, explained that the State Government was working on its resolve to not only punish cultists but also bring all accessories to criminal activities to justice, hence the demolition of houses where crimes are committed.

The Commissioner further called on property owners to be vigilant towards the activities of their tenants, advising that no property owner should be seen harboring cultists or being accomplices to criminal activities.

Hon. Ohonbamu who advised parents to bring up their children in a morally upright manner, explained that no house in Edo State was demolished without thorough confirmation of crimes being carried out in such residents or direct confessions by the perpetuators of such crimes, adding that parents who failed to take decisive actions against criminally minded children and wards would be regarded as accomplices to crime, as no one should cover up for a criminally minded ward.

The Commissioner further asserted that the State Government under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo had taken a strong stance against crimes relating to cultism, ritual activities, invasion of herdsmen and illegal possession of arms by beefing up security through the increase of the security votes, provision of Hilux Vans and Power Bikes for the purpose of bush combing in order to ensure that the state is rid of terrorist activities perpetuated by herdsmen, while informing the pressmen that over 5,000 illegal arms had been recovered, within the first six months of the present administration.

Hon. Ohonbamu who asserted that it was the resolve of Governor Monday Okpebholo to make Edo State, which was made of bricks into a city of marble, through top notch infrastructural development that would positively impact the economic standing of the State, explained that the overhead bridge earmarked for Aduwawa axis was already underway, in order to offset traffic gridlock and attract investors to the State, which would in turn, automatically become more economically viable, adding that other fly over bridges were equally earmarked for Oloku and Sapele Road Axis, with several road construction works being done to ensure that Edo people live more comfortably and enjoy the dividends of democracy.

On education, the Commissioner explained that the education sector was being revamped, as the subvention of the State Owned University, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma had been increased from forty one million Naira to five hundred million Naira, explaining that the State Government was one that places premium on education, hence its move towards the accreditation of several courses in the University and the induction of Medical Graduates who could not be inducted earlier, for lack of accreditation, within the first six months of the administration.

Hon. Ohonbamu concluded by assuring that the Okpeholo led administration is a responsive one which will do all it takes to ensure that Edo people get the best form of governance any progressive society can have.
