Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security trains staff on Monitoring and Evaluation for better performance

The Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Peter Osagie says, the State Government would continue to take proactive steps towards driving Agricultural development and ensuring food security across the State.

Dr. Osagie stated this while declaring open a four-day training workshop organized by the Department of Policy Planning, Research and Statistics at the Agriculture Hub.

The Training Workshop was Tagged, “Strengthening, Monitoring and Evaluation for Enhanced Project Performance and Organizational Learning.

He disclosed that fifty participants were drawn from different Departments in the Ministry for the training workshop, pointing out that the workshop became imperative as part of efforts to equip staffers with necessary skills on monitoring and evaluation of projects, policies and programmes for better performance and planning.

Dr. Osagie explained that in actualizing the mandate of the Ministry, monitoring and Evaluation tools were crucial for effective implementation and assessment of impact of intervention programmes.

In a remark, the Head, Department of Policy Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Deborah Osawemwenze said the training session was part of Management’s efforts at building the capacity of officers in the Ministry on monitoring and evaluation to boost agricultural productivity.

One of the facilitators in a training session, Mr. Marvin Idahor taught the participants on the fundamentals of monitoring and Evaluation which included indicators, Result chain and reporting, data analysis and interpretation

In separate interviews, some participants, Dr. Osas Osagie, from Animal Health Department, an Officer from the Department of Policy Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Harry Osagiede, Ibrahim Aliyu from Animal Husbandry Services Department and Mrs. Mary Onybo of Tree Crop Program Department said the training had equipped them for better service delivery.
